Project Director – Leading Energy Storage IPP
Project Director sought to deliver a portfolio of energy storage projects for a leading investor-backed Independent Power Producer who build, own and operate one of Europe’s largest grid flexibility portfolios with a multi-GW pipeline of cross-technology projects at varied stages of development.
This role will be responsible for leading the full end-to-end project delivery of some of the UK’s largest flexibility projects from FEED stage through to operation. The successful candidate should have demonstrable experience leading the successful delivery of relevant projects within a client side or EPC environment.
Role Overview:
Lead the strategic project engagement functions including early contractor involvement, value engineering, head contract tendering process and execution
Responsible for key aspects of project delivery activities including reference to design development, project development and tracking, construction delivery, and commissioning of generating assets, all within the allocated project scope, time and budget
Act as the hands-on manager for a multi-functional project team including both internal and external resources
Ensure monthly project deliverables are completed including delivery plans, status reports, cost reports
Manage project budgeting and programme for successful delivery
Lead value engineering, construction analysis and design/document review to maximise delivery outcomes
Manage contract administration and superintendent services through delivery phase
Deliver strong commercial outcomes across the projects
Manage HSE requirements across project sites and deliverables
Prepare project reports, technical reviews and other capital infrastructure project deliverables to a high level of technical competence
Resolve commercial and technical issues as they arise
Ensure project specific and statutory requirements are met ensuring all local and national building codes are followed with all issues reported through the appropriate channels
The ideal Project Director should have:
Demonstrable experience successfully delivering relevant projects from inception to operation as project lead. This should represent project CapEx >£100m within your personal responsibility
Experience working within an EPC or principal contractor environment strongly preferred
Specific energy storage experience is not essential, but exposure to wider Energy or Power projects is beneficial
A track record in project management of design and construction (D&C) projects
Sound knowledge of project financial management including forecasting, procurement, contract management, schedule management and design management functions
Experience managing/overseeing quality control, completion, and commissioning processes
Strong focus on health, safety and environmental management
Good understanding of different procurement and contracting models
Experience in negotiating with contractors across pricing, procurement, large contract T&Cs, risk profiling for major construction packages
Capable of leading and communicating clearly at all organisational levels from C-suite to junior team members
Negotiation and communication skills with varied internal and external stakeholders
Technical background with a degree in Engineering (Electrical, Civil, Mechanical) or Construction Management preferred
Hands-on approach and positive attitude
This role will spend time between project sites throughout England and corporate HQ in London so mobility and willingness to spend time both on site and in the office are essential.
