If you have 5+ years of experience within a renewables or energy generation environment (gas peaking plants, BESS, wind, solar), supporting construction projects and designing/delivering transmission connections (275kV or 400kV), this could be your opportunity to join an organisation with one of the UK’s largest project pipelines.
Reporting directly to the Electrical Engineering Manager, the Senior Electrical Engineer will be part of a team responsible for delivering the electrical engineering for a number of flexible generation plants, including Battery Energy Storage, Hydrogen power gas peaking plants, Hydrogen Electrolysis and Pumped Storage Hydropower.
Key Duties
Co-ordinate the design inputs from all contractors responsible for design on site.
Proactively identify design issues early and resolve these issues or escalate to the head of engineering.
Lead design co-ordination meetings between all contractors focused on responsible engineering packages.
Manage design register and provide regular updates to the project team.
Manage contractors’ due dates and ensuring contractors deliver their required design deliverables correctly and on time.
Manage all electrical drawings and calculations required for the project.
Ensure correct and latest revisions of all drawings and calculations are used by all contractors in the design, development and construction of the project.
Regular site visits to review design developments with site based team and to assist project management team in any design related issues that arise during construction.
Support the Technical Director in developing designs and specifications and evaluating contractors for future battery and hydrogen ready gas peaking plants.
Undertaking an Owners Engineer role from an electrical engineering point of view, providing review of electrical design work undertaken by contractors for both their own and other projects constructed by the team (review of contractor designs and calculations, earthing designs, protection, fault levels, grid studies – P28, G5/4, G99, load flow analysis).
Providing high level specification of electrical design.
Representing the company in meetings with designers, ESO, DNOs, suppliers and on site teams.
Additional Skills
Knowledge of 400 and 275kV Substation design.
Knowledge of electrical safety rules up to 400kV.
Knowledge of gas peaking plant construction.
Ability to liaise with DNOs and National Grid to manage and optimise the design and delivery of grid connection offers.
AutoCAD 2D and 3D Design.
Qualifications
MEng in Electrical Engineering or equivalent (a must).
