Project Engineer – Battery Storage Developer

Location: Bristol Head Office, UK wide role

The role of a Project Engineer requires the individual to draw on personal experience and use initiative to lead and manage energy storage projects, largely unaided, from conception through to completion. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the planning, implementation, and tracking of specific short-term and long-term energy storage projects, ensuring they are complete on time, within scope, within budget and maximising market value of the asset.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Planning and Initiation:

  • Work with Project Manager to define project scope, goals, and deliverables in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders.

  • Lead the develop detailed project plans, including timelines, budget, and resource allocation, with support from Project Manager. Ensuring coordination with portfolio and corporate levels plan and budget.

Project Execution:

  • Coordinate internal resources and third parties to ensure the flawless execution of projects.

  • Ensure all projects are delivered on time, within scope, within budget and maximising market value.

  • Develop and manage project programmes and work plans utilising task management system in Salesforce. Support Project Manager in ensuring milestone are met, managed, and reported.

Stakeholder Management:

  • Act as the primary point of contact for all project stakeholders, in coordination with Project Manager.

  • Maintain regular communication with Project Manager and Senior Management Team (SMT) and where applicable investor and project acquirers.

  • Prepare and deliver presentations to senior management and stakeholders on project progress, always using Salesforce and primary basis for progress reporting.

Risk Management:

  • Identify, assess, own and mitigate project risks. The PM will own the overall project risk register, in coordination with Project Engineers and other team members.

  • Develop risk management plans and implement strategies to minimise project risks. Resource Management:

  • Allocate project resources appropriately, ensuring efficient utilisation.

  • Manage and lead project teams, providing guidance and support to ensure project success.

Quality Assurance:

  • Monitor project progress and perform quality assurance checks to ensure project deliverables meet the required standards and specifications.

  • Assist Project Manager in implementing quality control processes.

Financial Management:

  • Track project performance, specifically to analyse the successful completion of short and long-term goals.

  • Prepare and present project financial reports and updates, with support from Project Manager and SMT.

  • Ensure all financial objectives are met.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain comprehensive project documentation.

  • Generate and submit regular project status reports to management and stakeholders.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure that all projects comply with statutory, regulatory and company policy requirements.

  • Ensure remain diligently updated on industry standards and best practices.

  • Responsibility concerning project level Health and Safety and associated statutory and regulatory requirements such as CDM are fully understood.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Project Management, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree or PM certification is preferred.

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of project management experience in the energy sector, with a focus on energy storage projects.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong understanding of energy storage technologies and systems.

  • Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera, Salesforce).

  • Deep appreciation for the value drivers of Energy Storage projects.

  • Support the Project Manager in understanding, defending, and optimising the project economics such that value of the asset is maximised at each major milestone.

  • Excellent knowledge and experience of successfully applying and delivering town planning applications, including liaising with LPA.

  • Grid connections – The Project Engineer is responsible for ensuring and timely and commercial attractive grid connection is achieved, with support from Project Manager.

  • The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for ensuring the land rights for the project are secured in a timely and commercial acceptable form, with Support from Project Manager.
