Grid Manager – Renewable Energy Developer (Solar & BESS)

 

A Grid Manager is sought by an established renewable energy developer who develops, finances, builds, and operates a range of Renewable Energy, Energy storage assets across the UK.

 

Joining the Project Development team, you will lead key aspects of the grid connection process for its rapidly growing portfolio of energy infrastructure assets.

 

The successful Grid Connections Manager will play an essential role in securing grid capacity, coordinating with iDNOs and DNOs, selecting and managing ICP partners, and supporting the progression of projects in development.

 

The developer currently has over 2GW of projects in the development pipeline (solar and BESS) and 240MW under asset management including 7 solar sites that have been developed in-house in addition to hundreds of commercial and domestic roof-top installations. Their ambition is to scale this portfolio significantly and they’re well placed to do so having raised significant capital. Assets currently under development include Solar and BESS.  In addition there is a strategy to enter overseas markets.

 

Location – The Grid Manager role is hybrid, working 2-3 days in the office and the remainder remotely.

 

Role and Responsibilities:

 

  • Assess the suitability of grid for early-stage projects

  • Submit G99 applications

  • Assess technical viability and parameters of G99 offers and scrutinise connection costs and connection dates

  • Lead Grid Offer negotiations with iDNOs/DNOs on pricing, milestones and payments

  • Serve as company point of contact for all iDNO/DNO communications

  • Manage ICP tender processes including establishing scope of work, reviewing responses and selecting contractors

  • Provide technical support during project construction

  • Develop and maintain relationships with industry leading ICPs

  • Identify and review emerging technologies and techniques to optimise new projects

  • Develop and manage cost estimation throughout the project development process

 

Grid Connections Manager requirements:

  • 3+ years involvement in grid connection development

  • Participation in and leading grid connection processes in the UK (e.g. National Grid, DNOs)

  • Electrical Engineering or similar university degree supplemented by industry experience

  • Strong ties to key industry players, iDNOs and DNOs, ICPs

  • Knowledge of market-standard construction and equipment costs

  • Renewable energy experience preferred

  • Experience of working in overseas markets desirable
