Grid Engineering Manager – Leading Solar & BESS Developer

A fast-growing renewable energy developer with a 2.3GW pipeline is seeking a Grid Engineering Manager to play a key role in securing and optimising grid connections for utility-scale solar and battery storage projects. With several projects set for construction over the next three years, this is an opportunity to join a dynamic team at a pivotal stage of growth.

The Grid Engineering Manager will work closely with the Head of Grid to develop and implement a grid-first strategy, ensuring projects are designed and delivered in a way that maximises grid opportunities. The role will involve securing grid capacity, managing grid applications, negotiating connection agreements, and working with ICPs and DNOs to deliver efficient, cost-effective grid connections.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the grid connection process for large-scale solar and BESS projects from feasibility to energisation.

  • Support grid capacity assessments for early-stage developments, acquisitions, and project disposals.

  • Negotiate grid offers with DNOs/NESO, ensuring favourable terms on pricing, milestones, and payments.

  • Prepare and submit grid applications (DNO/NESO) and Mod-app applications to accelerate connections.

  • Work with ICPs to tender, select, and manage partners for grid design and construction.

  • Stay up to date with regulatory changes impacting grid connections and network constraints.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including DNOs, NESO, and ICPs.

Requirements

  • 5+ years’ experience in grid connection management within a DNO/NGET/NESO, renewable energy developer, grid consultancy, or ICP.

  • Strong technical knowledge of grid capacity assessment, connection agreements, and network regulations.

  • Experience managing ICP contracts and overseeing grid design and construction.

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.

  • Commercial awareness and problem-solving mindset to navigate grid connection challenges.

  • Ability to engage effectively with DNOs, NESO, ICPs, and internal stakeholders.
